Today We Are All Egyptians

Dear People of Egypt...I'm watching you rejoice via my TV screen and my twitter feed and I am clapping and have tears in my eyes for you.   You have done it.  Mubarak has resigned.

I have been glued to CNN and Al Jazeera English for the past three weeks, watching and waiting for what just happned a few minutes ago.  It took you just three weeks to bring down a 30 year repressive dictatorship and you did it non violently, without firing a shot.  You did it in the spirit of Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr. and you showed the world what you are made of.  I, and all freedom loving people all over the world, salute you.

Thank you dear Egyptians for proving once again that freedom is the right of every human being and despotism is morally wrong and will, in the end, always be defeated.

You did it, brave people of Egypt, and  I am so proud and happy for you.  May you  create a true government of and for the people, and may Egypt be a beacon for the entire Middle East-- no, make that the entire world.

Because of you, Egypt is Free and the rest of the world is a little free-er.Today, all of us, all over the world, who love liberty, are Egyptians.

Your last two lines sum it all up beautifully, Pink. Rachel also said on her show that we, as Americans, instinctively root for those who want democracy, and I think that's true - fascinating to watch the birth of a new democracy in the cradle of society. Great post - let's hope for more great things for Egypt in this Tunisian Tsunami of democracy.
