Sarah Palin Calls for Democrats to Play Nice. Who Can Take Her Seriously? Not Jon Stewart

Sarah Palin  was at it again last week.  I guess she is suffering from media deprivation so she just had to say a few outrageous things to bring back the cameras. She's still playing the victim and still living in a distorted world where liberals wear the black hats and conservatives are good and holy.  Palin accuses evil liberals of telling lies and swears up and down she cannot think of one Republican who lies and distorts things the way liberals do. ( I guess she has never heard of Rush Limbaugh) but nevermind.

Jon Stewart got right on Sister Sarah's case.   In case you missed it, the video of the segment is below and it is a must see.... especially if you need a break from the anger and vitriol of the campaign clown show.

Check it out for a laugh and an injection of sanity.  Sometimes I think The Daily Show is a better source of hard news than CNN and it certainly beats the pants off of FOX and MSNBC.

This Is The Face of Obamacare

26 year old Erica would not be here today were it not for one part of President Obama's Affordable Care Act that has already gone into effect-- that is the part about insurance companies not being able to deny coverage because of pre-existing conditions.

You never think, when you are 26 years old and healthy, that you are going to get a brain tumor, but that is what happened to Erika.  Watch the video.  It will help you understand that the un-insured are not faceless, syncophants looking to leech off of those who have insurance.  They are ordinary people, just like YOU. And if they could be denied medical care in our system because of lack of money, so could you.

Obamacare is better than a system that lets insurance companies make life and death decisions for people on the basis of what is best for corporations......and permits people to go without medical care so shareholders will get dividends.  Something is very wrong when an insured 94 year old can get a pacemaker and chemotherapy for terminal cancer, while an uninsured 26 year old cannot get  brain surgery for a curable brain tumer...... not in MY America.
Four more years for President Obama.  Please.... it's a matter of life and death.

Thanks to BarackObama.com on YouTube for the video.

Fox News on High Gas Prices in 2008 vs. Now

Here's something to chew on over the week-end.  Four years ago when Bush was President and the world was a different place, Fox News didn't blame the President for the high price of oil-- no no no.

Back then  when the price of gas was nearing $4.00 a gallon, Bill O'Reilly and the talking heads carefully explained the the economics of the international oil market and affirmed that " no President has the power to control international oil markets"

Wonder what happened to change their minds?  Could it be that Obama got elected and is actually doing a good job ?  Eat your heart out Fox News. Fair and Balanced--Feh!

The Three Little Wives of Newt

With apologies to Gilbert and Sullivan and The Mikado, I just had to share this video valentine to the redoubtable Republican candidate-- the one, the only, Newtster,  from his three ( count them) three wives.  It's a cleverly concocted  satirical ditty done by the Capitol Steps.  Just in case you've been on a desert island and don't know who the Capitol Steps are, they are a Washington DC based comedy group that specializes in hilarious political satire and in total fairness, roasts both Democrats and Republicans over the coals with equal relish.  Their  self-styled motto is " we put the "mock" in " democracy".... and they definitely did!

Watch the video.  You'll see what I mean.  Happy Valentines Day, Newt, honey.

If you want  more, go on over to their website and check things out. They've been cracking everybody in Washington up for more than 30 years. They know where all the bodies are buried and they've got loud voices.

Peace on Earth

It's a pretty radical notion that we could learn to live together in peace instead of trying to kill each other all the time.  But that, folks, when you get down to basics, is what the Christmas story is all about. This is the time of year when we tend to talk the talk about peace on earth.  But, so far, for at least 2000 years we have not walked the walk.  In fact, religion has more often been a cause of war than an instrument of peace, but we do keep trying and hoping, and that too is part of the Christmas message.

Maybe this is the year when we human beings will finally start to get it.  I hope so. But, I'm not holding my breath.  Merry Christmas to all of us, whoever and wherever we are and whatever faith we do or don't practice.

The Un-Official Anthem of the 99 - Things Have Got To Change

This video is a must see, and the song is a must download, especially since you can download it for free  here.

Here's what JohnnyBlu, the creator of Things Have Got To Change, says about why he wrote it.
"I wrote this song with respect to the struggle that all of us, including independent artists like me, are experiencing during these unsure times. This style of song is not in my usual genre, my usual singing style, or my usual writing style... but this song is completely from my heart."- Jonny Blu

When someone speaks from the heart like this, it is hard not to listen and really hear. Lyrics and credits are printed below for those who want more info.

Things Have Got To Change (We Are The 99)

(Lyrics and Music by Jonny Blu)

We see it all around us
We feel it in our skin
Mothers, Fathers, Sons and Daughters
Wearing ourselves thin
Preachers preach a line or two
Of how we live in sin
They sell it on the evening news
And we keep on giving in

We don't care whose side you're on
What you think is right or wrong
We can all have freedom
If we can get along

We can hear the song, but no one's singing
We'd break the glass, but there ain't no ceiling
We climb the mountain of no tomorrow
But they keep on peddling grief and sorrow
It's time now
Things have got to change

Maybe it's our generation
Maybe it's the times
But we can no longer take what's kept us all in line
We ate our bread and watched the the circus
As it passed us by
But now it's time to reason
Now let's speak our minds

We don't care whose side you're on
What you think is right or wrong
We can all have freedom
Let's do what must be done

We can hear the song, but no one's singing
We'd break the glass, but there ain't no ceiling
We climb the mountain of no tomorrow
But they keep on peddling grief and sorrow
It's time now
Things have got to change

So Friends, Romans, Countrymen
Lend me all your ears
We come to bury all the wrong
And inter it with our fears
Let's learn the lessons of our past
Speak loud and strong, it's fine
We're sick and tired of being sick and tired
We are The 99

We can hear the song, but no one's singing
We'd break the glass, but there ain't no ceiling
We climb the mountain of no tomorrow
But they keep on peddling grief and sorrow
It's time now
Things have got to change
They've got to change

Friday Quote From Bernie Sanders

I love Bernie.  You can take the boy out of New York, but you can't take the New York out of the boy and Bernie is an old fashioned stickball playing, smart talking, liberal thinking New York kid even though he now represents Vermont.  I wish he represented ME-- well in spirit he does.  This whole video where he lays out what he thinks of Republican ideas for the super committee is what I think too and my favorite quote is at about 0:36 -- to wit:

" I will be damned if we are going to balance the budget on the backs of the elderly, the sick, the children and the poor. That's WRONG!"

One More Rick Perry Joke

I love Zina Saunders. Her political sensibilities are right on the money ( to coin a phrase) and she hasn't lost her sense of humor ( which is more than I can say for myself, at least when it comes to Rick Perry)

Rick Perry is the new Sarah Palin, enjoying his 15 minutes of fame, shocking and amusing us all and generally acting like a Texas fool.  Cable news loves him and so do bloggers.  He brings those eyeballs to the screen and gives everyone a chance to build traffic and make money.

I cannot believe that he will still be a contender six months from now.

If he is, we are all in trouble.  This is a guy who really thinks the earth is flat.

My Congressman Got Back to Me Today About the Debt Ceiling

I had an email tonight from Congressman Rush Holt.  I'm one of his constituents and he wanted to let me know the latest on the debt ceiling gridlock in Congress. Like many others I've been calling and emailing his office and making my voice heard.   Rush Holt is one hard-working, smart, honest guy who takes his job seriously.   Here is some of what he had to say in his email: to constituents tonight.
"This is an unnecessary, artificial crisis.  It is not the result of a natural disaster or terrorist attack.  It is solely the result of Republicans in Congress holding America hostage.  They are threatening a crisis unless Congress enacts their extreme, ideological agenda – an agenda that demands hundreds of billions of dollars in cuts to Medicare and Social Security, all while protecting tax loopholes for oil companies, corporate jet owners, and billionaires.

What is especially troubling is Congress has now wasted weeks in these hostage negotiations instead of doing the real, difficult work required in this economy:  putting people back to work.  Solving the jobs crisis would do far more to reduce our nation’s deficit than any plan now pending in Congress.  In fact, the long-term deficit would improve dramatically if we simply ended the Bush tax cuts for the very wealthy and Big Oil.  Removing the Bush tax cuts would do more to reduce the deficit than Speaker Boehner’s bill.

To those who insist that, by refusing to allow America to pay its bills, they can teach the nation a lesson, I ask this question:  would you teach yourself a lesson by refusing to pay your credit card bill?

The moment has long since passed to end this self-induced crisis.  Let’s raise the debt limit and move on to the real work of rebuilding the American economy."

How sane. How sensible. And what a contrast to the political circus that is going on in Washington this week-end. .  For more sane commentary on the debt ceiling crisis check out the video below.  Aren't I lucky to have such a great guy representing me in Congress?

The Wonderful World of Potential GOP Candidates

Snap your fingers, tap your toes and sing along with the music.  Then have a laugh as you  try to imagine any of these folks acutally running for President in 2012.( especially The Donald)

Sometimes the world is so nutty that all you can do is laugh.  This is definitely one of those times. And this is the perfect video for a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Mubarak, The World Is Watching You

One video says it all.  The people of the world are watching and lifting their voices as one in solidarity with the people of Egypt. Watch the video and you will see.

"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. "  --Thomas Jefferson
