It's a pretty radical notion that we could learn to live together in peace instead of trying to kill each other all the time. But that, folks, when you get down to basics, is what the Christmas story is all about. This is the time of year when we tend to talk the talk about peace on earth. But, so far, for at least 2000 years we have not walked the walk. In fact, religion has more often been a cause of war than an instrument of peace, but we do keep trying and hoping, and that too is part of the Christmas message.
Maybe this is the year when we human beings will finally start to get it. I hope so. But, I'm not holding my breath. Merry Christmas to all of us, whoever and wherever we are and whatever faith we do or don't practice.

A Merry Christmas to you, too, my friend. I join you in hoping that we human beings finally start to get it. In the meantime, as Gandhi suggested, we should seek to be the change we wish to see.
Well said, Doug -- it is candles in the darkness that create light
